Invitation to Join

I am inviting you to be part of an exciting Partnership Initiative at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education’s Science of Learning Hub, which aims to bridge the gap between researchers and schools.

By being part of this partnership, schools will be supported by researchers over the course of one year to implement evidence-based practices into action in schools, through a cycle of diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The intention is to connect research deeply with practice for the purpose of translation and impact on student outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to position your teachers and school as evidence – based practitioners, be closely aligned with the University, and develop case studies within your school that can inform educators worldwide on what best practice looks like in schools to enhance the learning skills of students.

Build Metacognition in Your Learners

Metacognitive learners know how to monitor and regulate their learning with appropriate strategies, have greater self-efficacy, and are capable of significant gains in achievement. In order to develop metacognition in their students, teachers must have an understanding of what learning strategies are effective, and at which point in learning they should be accessed and utilised. This in turn, should be shared with, and embodied in learners.

The program will offer a range of online modules, supported with online focus sessions with leading education researchers, consultations and personalised support, to develop teacher understanding of: metacognition; the concept of surface, deep and transfer learning; and, the learning strategies that support effective learning at each stage. Based on this, teachers can engage students with high level learning strategies at the right time, and teach students when the appropriate time is in learning to access these strategies.

A set of measures of metacognitive learning, with reports to support improvement, and evaluate impact.

Online Focus Sessions

Theses sessions will be run by leading education researchers, to support the development of meta-cognition in your learners

Ongoing personalised support for each school to support school improvement

School Networking

Supported networking opportunities will be provided throughout the year through web conferencing.
